All fourth grade curriculum will be taught using the Common Core Standards. To learn about the new transition from California State Standards to Common Core please refer to the handbook. If you have questions about these new standards feel free to ask. Fourth Grade Curriculum Students will read and write in all subject areas throughout the year. It is very important that students know multiplication facts 1-10 upon entering 4th grade. Students are expected to be independent, cooperative, and responsible.
Language Arts: Throughout the year students will read and write stories, respond to articles in summary form as well as learn the more formal response to literature. Students will memorize and recite one poem each week, on a specified day, choosing from monthly poetry selections.

Math: Trimester 1:Estimation and rounding of whole numbers, factoring small numbers, basic algebra using parentheses and variables, and problem solving
Trimester 2: Multiplication of multi-digit by 2-digit numbers, algebra, geometry, and graphing points on a grid
Trimester 3:Read, write and make connections between decimals and fractions, division of larger numbers by 1-digit numbers, identify negative numbers on number lines, geometry, estimate, round, add and subtract decimals to hundredths place, identify simple fractions
Social Studies: Trimester 1: Geography, California Indians (Report will be researched and written in class)
Trimester 2: Explorers of California, Spanish and Mexican California(Report will be researched and written in class and at home)
Trimester 3: California Gold Rush, statehood and beyond (Report will be researched and written entirely as homework)
Science: Trimester 1:Rocks and minerals
Trimester 2:Electricity and magnetism
Trimester 3: Living things--It is likely we will raise salmon in the classroom in cooperation with Granite Bay Fly Casters!
Throughout the year: Students will make predictions and conduct experiments using the Scientific Method
Field Trips: California Museum, Roseville Utility Center, and James Marshall Discovery Park
